Winner of ‘Screamin My Name’ Remix Contest…

Kanio (Dejan Tucakovic), is an independent producer based in Stockholm, Sweden. He has been making music on and off since being a teenager. Raised in an area called Hagalund in Sweden, which has produced a lot of creative talents, the love for music was discovered in an early age. Approx a year ago though, Kanio was about to give up on his dream on making a career as a producer. Thanks to his dear friend Urban Iqbal though, who is one of three producers that make up the production group Desitronix, Kanio decided not give up on the dream but instead focus on reaching it. With the mentorship and support from his friend, Kanio has the last year done 3 remixes with positive outcome and the boost of confidence being the best reward. Kanio saw the competition at LaNeahworld.com as a good challenge and it would also be a great opportunity for a breakthrough if the remix ends up on LaNeahs upcoming album. Kanio sat down and hurried to finish it before the set deadline date and it took him approx. 3 weeks. Not 100 percent satisfied with it he still gambled and sent it in not to miss out on the competition knowing that the sound and idea of the track is what matters the most. The minor tweaks and such can always be fixed at a later stage. Still the win came as a welcome surprise as the competition was hard. There were many producers that shined and that deserve the biggest respect. The remix was done in Logic Pro 8 with additional add-ons and every sound you hear is played by Kanio. Kanio is eagerly waiting to get the full accapella so that he can turn the track into real fire. Get ready for take off!

Mary J Blige talks about the the process of writing “I Can See in Color,” from the film“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push.”

LA Times Reports:

“I was damaged, in a good way,” Blige said of writing and recording the song.

“Precious” opens in limited theatrical release Nov. 6, and the Lee Daniels-directed film tracks the harrowing story of an overweight, abused and pregnant black teenager. Blige said Daniels was present at the recording sessions, and pushed the artist to the limit.

The director, Blige said, was “very passionate” about what he wanted, adding that “everything” she would do was “not enough.” Striving to add more emotion into the song, a slow-burning, bluesy soul number, Blige said, Daniels would say to her, “If you’re about to cry, just cry.”

Blige was a keynote speaker at a film and television music conference hosted by Billboard Magazine and the Hollywood Reporter. The R&B veteran was joined by Raphael Saadiq, who shares producing and writing credits on “I Can See in Color,” in a discussion moderated by Billboard’s senior editor Gail Mitchell.

Blige’s protege, LaNeah Menzies, also shares a writing credit on the tune. Menzies is signed to Blige’s Universal Music Group imprint Matriarch, and is one of the writers listed on Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown.”
